Sire Stag Sale Jan Report

Yeah Right! Tui girls were on hand with refreshments for the 70-plus crowd at Wilkins Farming’s Red sire stag sale at Castlerock saleyards near Lumsden on 15 January.

There were 26 stags sold at an average price of $3,511.54. The top price of $7,700 paid by Tim Aitken, Hawkes Bay for a son of Megamilian with a 12 month EBV of 21.30 and estimated loin weight of 5.08kg.
The next two top prices were $7,600 and $7,200, also by Megamilian. For the Wilkins it was their first public sale, and they followed the Helmsman auction system. “It gave buyers the chance to play the whole field and at one time, I was pleased with how it went and we had good feedback.”

We are happy with the lineup that included stags that had some good maternal as well as some straight growth rate genetics. With 12 mth EBV that would compare well with any line up in the country for stags born 2007. Our sale had 6 stags over +20. And range in the sale lineup of +22.74 -+11.25.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who supported us and look forward to catching up with you throughout the year.
